Portweine
In Europe, port wine is a protected term: the grapes used must come from the Douro Valley in the north of Portugal. Port wine is named after the Portuguese port city of Porto, from where the wine is shipped internationally. Port wine has a high alcohol content. The aim was to preserve the wines longer for export and alcohol was added to the wine at an early stage of fermentation.
