Chateau Puygueraud

In 1946, the George and Monica Thienpont family, originally from Flanders, acquired Chateau Puygueraud in the Côtes de Francs appellation. Nicolas Thienpont (Chateau Pavie Macquin, among others) has been in charge of the wines since 1981 and has been supported by his son Cyrille (Chateau l'If, among others) since 2009. The first vintage was launched in 1983.
Today, around 47 hectares are cultivated, 42 of which are planted with red and 5 with white vines and divided into 67 plots. The Cuvée George, named after Nicolas' father, is bottled in special vintages (so far 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2018). As he was a great lover of the Malbec variety, around 50% is used for this special cuvée, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
After a manual harvest, the wine is fermented in cement tanks and then matured for around 16 months in 225-liter barrique barrels. The 2016 vintage marks the 70th anniversary of the takeover of Château Puygueraud. To honor George, the label of this exceptional cuvée was illustrated by Clémence Thienpont using a picture.
