2019 Mondot
Fragrant plum and peony aromatics, a little closed on the palate, feel that limestone grip straight away, get the chalky edge to the tannins and the slightly austere but juicy slate-scraping raspberry fruits. A wine with personality and one that speaks of its soils. For now all Merlot from entirely limestone soils, but Cabernet Franc may be added in from 2022, so if you like this style of Mondot, make the most of it now! 35% one year old barrels, 70% stainless steel.
93/100 Jane Anson
The 2019 Mondot is 100% Merlot and was aged 60% in 1-year-old barrels and 40% in tank. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it offers up black cherries, redcurrant jelly, and red plums, with spritely nuances of wet slate, roses, and Sichuan pepper and a waft of wild sage. Medium-bodied, it is delicately styled and refreshing with bags of bright, crunchy fruits and grainy tannins supported by compelling freshness, finishing with a minerally lift. This wine was not released en primeur and will be available in September 2022.
