2019 Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon
Honouring fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke's great uncle Julius, a sculptor whose most famous work, Adelaide's war memorial, features angels carved from Angaston marble, which was quarried next to this 1970s-planted single vineyard in Light Pass. Bordeaux fans will love the firm yet generous structure of this 100% Cabernet, which shows strapping chalky-textured tannins and menthol-fresh acidity to support inky wild bramble and Blackforest cherry flavours, hints of gravel and violets. Just coming out of its shell now, it should continue to develop well.
