2014 Clos des Goisses DMG
The Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 14 is a classic, somewhat yesteryear style of Clos des Goisses that is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay coming from 14 different small parcels each vinified separately with only the best, ripest elements included in the final blend. None of the wines underwent malolactic to retain freshness and it was finished Extra Brut with a 4.5 gram per liter dosage. Ethereal, floral notes of white viburnum waft over layers of ripe red apple, lemon butter biscuits, almond nougat, clover honey and toast then flow into a medium to full-bodied palate infused with a high-gloss, vibrant acidity shining a Klieg light of freshness on pure red berry fruit and citrus intensity. There is an ease of elegance throughout, and incredible length on the creamy finish. 20,000 bottles. Disgorged in March 2023 and finished with a 4.5 grams per liter dosage. 19984 Bottles produced

The 2014 Clos des Goisses, 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay, is Extra Brut at 4.5 g/L dosage and was disgorged in March 2023. It needs a little coaxing to bring out delicate scents of wet pebbles, lime blossom, and green apples plus emerging wafts of Marcona almonds, yuzu, and baking bread. Light-bodied and very dry, the palate is super-fine and delicately crafted, with a lively backbone supporting the intense flavors, finishing long and minerally.

Clos des Goisses (Philipponnat) 2014 (Champagne; 71% Pinot Noir; 29% Chardonnay; dosage of 4.5 g/l; disgorged in March; 12.5% alcohol; no malolactic fermentation). Tasted in Bordeaux in July and then with Charles Philipponnat at the property two weeks before its release. A subtle hint of gold. Salty. Bready. A little blanched almond or new season almonds before the skins have formed and darkened. Yuzu. Lime and lemon in all their guises. Granny Smith. This is a little like the 2013, but more fluid, even fresher and perhaps more youthful too. It’s also quite a contrast to Les Cintres (tasted alongside) – almost delicate in comparison. Limpid. Classic. Pure, if a little more closed than Les Cintres. Strawberry. Redcurrant. Cinnamon. White flowers. A little honeyed note too and a touch of saffron. Very gracious and refined. Tight and fresh and extremely elegant. It will grow in amplitude with time, as indeed it does with aeration. Extremely tense and charged with energy. Ethereal. Very primitive, but with staggering potential. Hyper fresh. Dense and more compact than Clos Lanson and with even more minerality and salinity. This floats and glides and dances in the mouth where it is, for now, much more expressive.

The kind of dry that in Champagne puts the emphasis on all the right places - salt-scraping, pure citrus, quince, gooseberry and lemon grass, with chalky persistency, relaxing through the mid palate to show brioche, almonds, candied ginger, graphite, concentrated and scintillating, so good. Another cool vintage in Champagne that here puts the emphasis on finesse, but with higher yield than the 2013, all perfectly handled by the legendary 5ha of Clos des Goisses walled vineyard that is located on the slopes of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Thierry Garnier cellar master. 60% aged in Burgundy barrels, 40% in stainless steel tanks, no malo, 4.5g/l dosage.
